For example, datetime values have drop-down with a calendar. Images can be displayed right inside of the grid.

Instead of posting changes to database on each modified record, which requires round-trip to database and can be slow, especially if database is on the other side of the planet - we let you make any changes you wish in-memory. That is as fast editing as it can be. Then either commit or rollback all your changes at once, without blocking your coworkers or locking table.
