PROJECT

Project

A project is everything Full Convert needs to copy or replicate a database: the source and target connections, the selected tables with their mappings, and the project options. The wizard creates it, and the project overview is where you work with it.

There are two kinds of projects. A copy project recreates tables in the target and copies all the data. A replication project compares the source and target tables and carries over only the differences. The project type is chosen when you start the wizard and can't be changed later, but you can create as many projects as you like against the same databases.

Saving

Save the project so you don't need to set things up again next time. Project files have the .fcpx extension and are encrypted, so connection information is not leaked by simply copying the file. Everything is in the file: connections, table selection, mappings and options. Projects saved with older versions of Full Convert open just fine.

Saved projects appear in the Recent projects list on the welcome screen and open with a single click. The same file is what the console application and the scheduler run, so a project set up and tested in the application can go straight into a nightly job.

Opening

When a project opens, Full Convert connects to both databases and reads the table structures again, so the project always reflects the databases as they are now. If a connection fails, the overview says so and lets you fix it without leaving the project.
