Convert Oracle to Firebird

Full Convert is designed for ease of use and reliability to make sure you get your job done as quickly and as simply as possible.

Making migration easy for you

Full Convert is a fully self-tuning software. Your migration will work as expected without you needing to adjust anything.

Data types are different in Firebird compared to Oracle. We automatically adjust them as we copy the tables so you don't have to worry about it. You can adjust the mapping rules if you wish to change the following defaults:

  • binary_double double precision
  • binary_float float (if precision <= 24)
  • binary_float double precision (if precision > 24)
  • blob blob sub_type 0
  • clob blob sub_type 1
  • date timestamp
  • float double precision (if precision > 79)
  • long blob sub_type 1
  • long raw blob sub_type 0
  • nchar char
  • nclob blob sub_type 1
  • number decimal
  • nvarchar2 varchar
  • raw char
  • rowid char(16)
  • sdo_geometry blob sub_type 1
  • urowid char(16)
  • varchar2 varchar
  • xmltype blob sub_type 1

Full Convert migration in 4 easy steps

1.
Oracle connection

Oracle

We will choose Oracle from the source database engines list. We can connect to our Oracle in two ways. If we have Oracle Client installed, simply typing the service name and specifying login info is all we need.

However, when you don't want to install 100MB+ of OCI installation, we have a nice surprise! We can connect to Oracle using a direct TCP/IP connection. No OCI required. In addition to database name and login info, we would just need to specify server name or IP - and done.

2.

Firebird

We will choose Firebird from the list of available database formats.

In the server field we need to type the name or IP address of the Firebird server. If you have Firebird installed on the local machine, where Full Convert is running, you can leave the server field blank. Username and password we don't need to touch in most cases as Full Convert pre-fills the "magic" values which opens all Firebird databases.

If Firebird is on this machine, we can now simply click ellipsis (...) button to select FDB database file. If the file is on remote machine, you need to type the path to the file as remote server sees it. So, if the file is in C:\t\ folder on your server, you need to write the full path, for example: C:\t\filename.FDB.

Start the conversion

All source tables are selected for conversion by default. In case you only need some tables, simply deselect the ones you don't need - or deselect all, then select just the tables you do need. Click the Copy your database button to get started.

Conversion

Conversion is highly-optimized to run as fast as possible, yet provides top-notch reliability. Huge tables are converted in small chunks at a time, preserving memory and ensuring that your computer stays fast and responsive.
